WHY VENETIAN BLINDS?
The term “Venetian Blinds” is actually a little misleading as horizontally slatted blinds did not originate in Venice. But as a means of providing shade from the sun, while also lighting your home, this type of blind has been growing in popularity. Venetian blinds allow you the best of both worlds, providing privacy as well as the ability to softly filter the light into your home. Glossy or metallic finishes will bounce the light around your room as well, but with so many colours and finishes to choose from including metal, plastic, wood and even leather slats, you can really ring the changes to suit your decor scheme. Easy to install and clean by dusting or wiping with a damp cloth, they are a classic style that won’t date.
Wood and faux wood Venetian Blinds
Wood and faux wood venetian blinds are available in both natural wood and contemporary painted shades. From crisp, coastal-inspired whites, to rustic greys and the natural splendour of light and dark wood, the colour palette you choose can reflect and complement your interior decor scheme. A complementary or contrasting tape provides an extra point of interest to your wood Venetian blinds and softens the overall effect for a luxurious finish. It’s also an easy way to recreate the appearance of a shutter.
Endless variations with Venetian Blinds
Experimenting with Venetian blinds at the window is a great and relatively inexpensive way to give a nod to a trend. Strong colours and dual colour blinds can add a pop of contemporary style to a room scheme. But we do understand that not everyone wants a statement blind at their window, so our collection also includes an extensive choice of mellow neutrals.
Metal Venetians are also perfect for bathrooms and kitchens or any room that’s likely to get particularly warm or steamy. You can also play around with slat sizes to suit your design scheme as Venetian blinds are available in 15mm, 25mm, 35mm & 50mm slat sizes.
How Venetian Blinds work
Venetian blinds have horizontal slats made of aluminium, plastic or wood, one on top of another. The slats are suspended by wide cloth tapes or cords, which allow them to rotate in unison nearly 180 degrees. The slats can be rotated so that the inner edge faces upward or downward or somewhere between the two extremes, to allow light to enter the room. Venetian blinds can also be produced with a tilt cord or wand to adjust the angle of the slats.
The blinds are available with a variety of lift options including cordless, where you lower and raise the bottom rail by hand, lift cords which when pulled, the lift cord moves the bottom of the blind upward causing the slats to press into one another as the blind is raised, and motorised, where a remote control operates on a radio frequency to adjust the blinds.
When ordering venetian blinds we ask for either a blind size or a recess size (for when a blind is fitting within the window recess).
