Spinnakers Fistral Beach

Hops and Camellias were approached at the end of January 2015 by a couple who wanted to refresh their second property ready for the Easter holiday let market.

Set in Pentire, North Cornwall, the client’s apartment is on the second floor of a beautiful, new build complex – benefiting from being within walking distance of the award winning Headland Hotel and the famous surfing beaches of Fistral and Crantock.

The Story

The apartment compromises a master bedroom with en-suite, two guest bedrooms, a large family bathroom, an open plan kitchen-diner, a main living area which opens up on to a small balcony and plenty of hallway storage space.

With the brief in mind, Hops and Camellias replaced carpets and white washed, wood-effect flooring was laid down to accommodate visitors returning in their wetsuits after a day spent on the beach.

As well as designing for the practicalities of coastal living, the Cornish coast and countryside was also Camellia’s inspiration for the internal scheme. Neutral shades combined with pops of accent colours provides a flexible design that reflects the laid back coastal lifestyle with a light and airy feel throughout.

Hops and Camellias sourced botanical artworks for the walls and linens and denims and natural fabrics were used to give a rustic feel alongside reclaimed pieces of furniture. These clean lines and colours, mixed with the clients’ own characterful pieces, meant the overall design was eclectic in a way that visitors can relax and enjoy their holiday with a feeling of home-from-home.

As an apartment, the rooms didn’t get a huge amount of natural sunlight. Hops and Camellias recognised this challenge and designed with it in mind – selecting lighter colours and textures to work with. The team also chose double layered voiles for window treatments as an addition to blinds and curtains so the property could retain it’s privacy whilst benefiting from the beautiful coastal sunlight.

The Result

The refurbishment ran smoothly and the project was completed on time, just before the Easter holidays – allowing the owners to make the most of the start of the rental season in Newquay.
