Our Blog

Amongst the flurry of Christmas, launching our online shop, and plenty of exciting new design projects, we’ve just begun to get excited for all that lies ahead in 2016! In preparation for the year ahead, we’re curating out own 2016 time-capsule. Here’s a list of our favourite things for this year… Favourite Trend: Bringing Brazilian Aesthetic to the Duchy The tropical trend evolves for the new year, shaken up with influence from the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games. We’re seeing bold Brazilian inspired collections of vibrant colours, textures and patterns reflected in new collections from Cole & Son (available at Hops and Camellias), through to Ikea’s cheap and cheerful Tillfälle Collection hitting shelves in February. For a Cornish take on the Brazilian trend, get inspired by our tropical gardens, exotic blooms and jungle-like palms to inject a bright and bold spin on Cornwall’s classic coastal interior.

Favourite Fashion: Chic and Coastal Wet Weather Gear With such a wet winter, it’s only natural that wet weather wear will be making an appearance in early 2016 from wellies to raincoats. We’re coveting these understated yet luxurious short wellies from Le Chameau (salt water resistant too!). Inspired by the sea, they mirror 2016’s colour trend for dusty deep blue. Our favourite foodie haunt of late has to be the River Cottage restaurant ‘The Hop Store’, in the Skinner’s pub The Old Ale House, which opened in 2014 to complement the traditional Cornish pub downstairs. With a restaurant interior designed by Hops and Camellias, it’s a welcoming and relaxed environment to grab a bite to eat after a day spent shopping in Truro.

Favourite Escape: Holidays on the beach (Mawgan Porth) Sea view’s never go out of style, so even though we are lucky enough to live and work here, a holiday in Cornwall is our favourite escape for 2016.  Whether you’re seeking an active break filled with surfing and paddle boarding, or simply looking to unwind with a barbeque and the sound of the waves crashing, Cornwall has some of the most stunning properties to spend your vacation and soak up the views. One of our favourite spots for a coastal retreat has to be Mawgan Porth, situated on the rugged north Cornish coast. Our team was inspired by this picturesque village when designing the interior for a client’s holiday home based near the stunning beach… Mawgan Porth Holiday - JR20150325_Camellia_MawganPorth-77 Mawgan Porth Holiday - JR20150325_Camellia_MawganPorth-76 Favourite Creative Inspiration: Elle Decoration Ok, so it’s not Cornish. But we love getting our dose of luxury interiors from around the globe, and our guiltiest pleasure is Elle Decoration. If you’re looking for some interior inspiration, there’s no better place to start. (Plus, they’ve featured design projects from Hops and Camellias!) Favourite Day Out: Cornish Walks The team at Hops and Camellias loves wrapping up and heading outdoors to enjoy Cornwall’s breath-taking scenery with a long coastal walk. Our favourite spots to blow out the cobwebs are Kynance Cove on the Lizard and Trelissick Gardens near Falmouth. One of the most rewarding feelings is arriving at the relaxing comfort of your home after a blustery walk, kicking off your muddy boots and cosying up by the fire. We kept that in mind when decorating this house – perfectly suited for the Cornish lifestyle – spending time outdoors and retreating to your cosy safe-haven!
